Belltable:Connect is delighted to announce an open call for applications to its fourth workshop in Masterclass Series, supported by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon under the Theatre Artist Development Scheme.
For our fourth Masterclass, we welcome Dystopia Theatre (Italy).
APPLICATION FORM: Belltable Connect Masterclass Series Application Form
PROGRAMME AND OBJECTIVES:
This masterclass focuses on the play Echoes, written by Lorenzo De Liberato, which Stefano Patti and Marco Quaglia (Dystopia Theatre) have been touring since 2015. Echoes will receive its Irish premiere in Belltable, May 1-3, 2018. Participants will explore different ways of building a character. What are the elements that make a Villain and what elements give rise to a Hero?
We will draw inspiration from the great villains and heroes of relevant theatre plays and will improvise researching real-life situations and characters. Ecoh and De Bois, the two characters in Echoes, will form the framework for each villain and hero created by the participants during our investigation. Focusing on Ecoh and De Bois, two characters seemingly so far from each other, we will explore their objectives, their ambitions and their fears.
The masterclass will begin by analysing the text during a read-through, followed by floor work investigating possible approaches to the characters of Villain and Hero. What are they hiding while they speak? What are they really saying? What are the internal shifts?
The masterclass will include:
- Physical/ vocal training
- Table reading/ text analysis
- Improv work/ building a character
